What do termites look like?

Termites are often mistaken for flying ants, but there are noticeable differences:

  • Termite wings tend to be equal in size while ant wing sare usually longer in front and shorter in back.
  • Ants’ antennae are elbowed, while termites’ are straight.
  • Ants have a narrow, pinched waist, while termites’ waists are thicker and less defined.

How can termites enter my home?

Termites can enter homes with just 1/32-of-an-inch opening.In addition:

  • Termites follow tree roots and construction conduits such as pipes and footers to gain entry into homes.
  • Termites constantly forage and evaluate the size and quality of food resources as they seek out cellulose.
  • Termites can be in your home for several years with very few signs of activity.
  • Advance™ Termite Bait System can intercept colonies before they reach your home.
  

Step 1

Schendel will perform a thourough inspection of your home to determine if there is any termite activity, or if there are areas conducive to termites.

Step 2

Our first priority is to stop the termites that are damaging your home. The process of stopping these activite termites depends on the size and location of the activity. Schendel will utilize all of our termite resources to prevent these destructive creatures from causing more damage. These resources include the Advance™ Termite Bait System, Termidor®, foams and gels. Schendel's termite technicians have extensive training and experience and know what techniques and products work best in any given situation.

Step 3

Once the termites that are damaging your home are stopped, we will focus on the thousands left foraging around your property. Installation of the Advance™ Termite Bait System will allow Schendel to determine the locations of termite activivty. This bait system uses pressed wood, which termites prefer over the pine wood used by the leading baiting programs. If termites feed on this wood, we know there is a colony in the area that needs to be eliminated.

Step 4

Schendel will return to your home four times a year to check each of the Advance stations. If there is termite activity found, your technician will place bait in the station. One baited station can kill up to 400,000 termites, which is eight times the amount killed by other baiting programs. It is family-friendly, effective and environmentally sound. Tou will receive quarterly written updates about the activity in the Advance stations.

Step 5

The STEP Program includes a termite damage warranty*, which covers the repair costs of any new termite damage that occurs 90 days or more after the initial treatment. Schendel will perform a complete inspection for termites each year. Continued protection and damage warranty is accomplished by quarterly monitoring. This protection program is a key component to protecting your home, as studies have shown new colonies of termites can move into an area where termites were previously eliminated. It can be a matter of months or a matter of years–no one knows for sure.
