How To Get Rid Of Mice

3/16/2016

Have you heard the story of the town mouse and the country mouse? A town mouse visits his cousin in the country. The cousin offers him a meal of simple country cuisine. But the city mouse scoffs at this food and invites his cousin to the city where they dine together on fancy fare, but the meal is violently interrupted by two dogs that send the mice scurrying for safety. The moral of the story is that it is better to live a simple life, then live in opulence where there is danger. Perhaps this can be a lesson for folks who have real mice living in their homes.

If your home is inviting to mice, then they will see no reason to leave. Let’s take a look at some ways you can determine whether or not you have mice living in your home and what you can do to encourage them to live somewhere else.

Signs of Mice:

  • Gnaw marks on furniture, walls, plastic, or other materials. Mice have teeth that never stop growing. So, they need to chew. This is not only damaging to items and food product, it can also be a fire hazard if they find wires in your walls to chew through.

  • Droppings and urine. Mice tend to leave tiny brown/black droppings in the backs of drawers, under cabinets, or along your baseboards. You will also find these droppings near where they are nesting, such as attic spaces.

  • Tracks. If there is an area of powdery substance, such as flour, and there are mice present, they will leave tiny footprints.

  • Odor. When mice are present long enough, a musky odor will emerge. Also, if a mouse dies in your walls, there will be a pungent odor of decay.
