Stink Bugs Will Be Returning Soon, Are You Ready?

Stink bugs are an agricultural pest, this means they depend on crops to provide life-sustaining nutrients, during this process it is very common for stink bugs to cause significant damage to the plants they are feeding on. Stink bugs feed and damage a number of crops including fruits, vegetables and cotton plants. They are able to easily invade both homes and businesses, they are a particular problem in the fall as they seek shelter from the elements, but can be a problem throughout the year. Once the warmer weather of spring and summer arrive, these pests will once again become active outside, damaging crops again.

Preventing stink bugs can be pretty difficult due to their ability to hide in very tight spaces, but there are some things you can do to help. Stink bug prevention tips include:

  • Sealing up holes and cracks in your foundation

  • Installing door sweeps on exterior doors

  • Sealing up holes and gaps around windows and doors

  • Keeping vegetation trimmed back away from your house

  • Closing gaps found around utility entrances such as air conditioners, exhaust fans, and wiring

  • Making sure any shingle damage on your roof is repaired and keeping a tight-fitting cap on your chimney
