On October 3rd, teams of 3-6 runners took part in a very fun extreme adventure race called DART; this race benefits Let’s Help which is an organization that helps people to break the cycle of poverty. This seven mile race took place in downtown Topeka and not only focused on the participant’s physical fitness but their mental fitness as well; the DART race combines running with other physical and mental tasks! Schendel Pest Services was proud to participate in this event, not to get rid of bugs, but to feed bugs to race contenders!

Schendel was proud to participate in this year’s DART race; our station offered racers a choice- take a test or eat bugs! What do you think people chose? Well, believe it or not 100% of the racers chose to eat the bugs! The participants were able to increase their protein intake during the race by snacking on a delicious variety of bugs, chocolate covered crickets, or deliciously flavored larvets and crickets, yum!

This year’s race was a huge success with a great turn-out and a ton of fun had by all! Although there were many worthy competitors, the amazing team from Federal Home Loan Bank was crowned champion – congratulations to them! Although the race has indeed been run this year, the good news is: We will be back again next year! If you like to run, walk, have fun, eat bugs, and support a good cause then the DART race is for you. Get your friends and co-workers together, start training, and you could be part of next year’s winning team! Or better yet, you could be crowned next year’s champion team!
