Asian Lady Beetles In Kansas City

What is an Asian lady beetle?

Asian lady beetles (Harmonia axyridis) are frequent invaders during the fall or winter and are easily identified by the spotted pattern and the large, black ‘W’ on the thorax behind the head.  They often appear in shades of yellow, orange and red and have varying number of spots except for the male of the species, which are often without any spots.

Why do I have them?

Asian lady beetles are generally a problem for homeowners once the weather starts to cool and they start seeking shelter, in large numbers, for overwintering.  Sites that attract this species include houses, barns and other outbuildings that provide suitable protection.

Are they dangerous?

Asian lady beetles are considered nuisance pests when they invade in large numbers and while they don’t reproduce over the winter, they may become active on warmer, sunny winter days. These insects are a threat, however, to fruit crops because of their habit of feeding on ripe fruit.

How do you get rid of Asian lady beetles?

Asian lady beetles can be hard to eradicate. That's why our service includes the necessary products and follow up visits for one fee. Our treatment methods consist of the following:

Initial Service - Detailed inspection of the interior and exterior of your home, then a targeted treatment of all areas where activity is present. Each Initial Service includes the application of seven exclusive Pest Guard steps, designed to rid your home of unwanted pests and keep them away.

Follow Up - Quarterly interior/exterior or exterior-only services will be scheduled as part of our annual Integrated Pest Management program. All Schendel Premium Care customers enjoy the benefit of our PestZero Guarantee. If pests return in between visits, Schendel returns for free.

Can I do it myself?

Asian lady beetles are not a pest many people have success eradicating on their own.  Beware when purchasing pesticides and other products online, as many are not effective. Pesticides can be harmful to people and pets if they are misused or mixed improperly.

Testimonials

"Dear Mr. Boles,

We just signed up for a year of pest service on Monday after having had a spider scare over the weekend--unfortunately, I am terrified of spiders. Today, your representative, Rodney Branscum in Norman, serviced our house. He was just terrific! He was comprehensive in his walk through with me and with his explanations of how he was treating the home. Unlike service technicians we've had the in the past, he was judicious with the chemical application which I appreciated so very, very, very much as I have young children and a lot of pets.

He did a great job of documenting recommendations to help minimize future run ins with spiders, which was never service we had received in the past, too.

Thank you for providing such excellent, confidence inspiring staff and service.

Take care,"
