Easily recognized by their many legs, these creatures are commonly found throughout most of the United States. House centipedes are yellowish to dark brown and may have darker stripes or markings. Their segmented bodies are long and flat and can range from 1/8th of an inch to 6 inches in length. Although the word centipede means “100 legs”, most of these pests have between 15-177 legs. House centipedes feed on silverfish, carpet beetle larvae, firebrats, cockroaches, bed bugs, spiders and other small arthropods. House centipedes are part of the family Chilopoda and are not really an insect, but are instead an arthropod relative.
House centipedes live in damp places such as rotting logs, under stones, in mulch or yard clippings and in trash. They are nocturnal creatures that primarily stay outdoors. But when conditions are right, they may come inside. House centipedes can enter our homes through cracks and other small openings and prefer the moisture of basements or closets if it mimics their natural environment.
The first pair of legs on the house centipede form claw-like poison fangs. Although their bite can be painful, there are no long-lasting effects.
House centipedes may be difficult to control and that’s why our service includes the necessary products and follow up visits for one fee. Our treatment methods consist of the following:
Initial Service - Detailed inspection of the interior and exterior of your home, then a targeted treatment of all areas where activity is present. Each Initial Service includes the application of seven exclusive Pest Guard steps, designed to rid your home of unwanted pests and keep them away.
Follow Up - Quarterly interior/exterior or exterior-only services will be scheduled as part of our annual Integrated Pest Management program. All Schendel Premium Care customers enjoy the benefit of our PestZero Guarantee. If pests return between visits, Schendel returns for free.

This past month we asked them to come while we were home as we had seen 1 or 2 insects inside. For having just seen 1 or 2 insects the attention was over the top!
