With this fact sheet, you’ll have the information you need to set your mind at ease.
Will a heat treatment burn my house down?
This is the most common question we get, and the answer is a simple one. No, a heat treatment will not burn your house down, as long as it is done by a professional. Professionals use specialized heat remediation equipment that properly regulates the temperature in your home. This is done with self-regulating heaters and sensors placed throughout the structure.
Heat can hurt some of my belongings. What if I don’t get everything out that is sensitive?
We’ve done a lot of bed bug heat treatments. Don’t worry. We’ll let you know which items need to be removed and which items can stay inside the home. We’ll guide you every step of the way. You don’t have to worry about losing irreplaceable family heirlooms, specialty items made of wax, cosmetics, or food items.
Does big stuff have to be moved out, like televisions and computers?
You have probably heard someone tell you, at some point in your life, that heat is bad for a computer. But, the kind of heat that will hurt computers or televisions will be far above 120°F. Unless you have a plasma television, you will be fine to leave those items right inside your home. In fact, it is best to leave those items in the home because electronics are a popular hiding place for bed bugs.
Is there anything I have to do?
Yes. Though you don’t have to worry, there are some things you can do to help. You can help us find the items that need to be removed. You can make sure no loose paper can blow into the air. You can stow glass items gently in boxes, to give them extra protection. You can remove pictures, paintings, and other wall-mounted items so they don’t get blown off the wall by the fans our team will use, and you can move furniture away from the wall. It might seem like a lot, but it is worth it when you know that these few tasks will ensure that you and your family will no longer have to be bothered by bugs.
How long will I be displaced from my home?
We can usually get you back into your home the same day as treatment.
